Install and set up
Get the app on your phone, sign in, and set up your Oak Note.
Oak Note runs on iPhone and Android phones, and these docs describe that app. You record with your Oak Note, the small device that pairs with the app, and you can also import audio you already have. There are also early macOS desktop and read-only web clients. See POC scope and roadmap.
Oak Note is in early access. Your Oak Note contact will point you to the right build for your phone.
Create an account or sign in
- Create account. Enter your email address and choose a password. We email you an eight-digit code; type it into the app to finish.
- Continue with email. Sign in with your email address and password. If you forget your password, tap Forgot password? and we'll email you a link to reset it.
- Continue with Google or Apple. These buttons appear when they're offered.
You stay signed in, so you won't sign in every time you open the app. If a code doesn't arrive or stops working, tap Resend OTP and use the newest email.
Set up your Oak Note
After you sign in, the app walks you through setup:
- Turn on your Oak Note. Press and hold its button until the status light turns blue, then release. Keep it close to your phone.
- Allow Bluetooth. Your phone asks for Bluetooth access so the app can find your Oak Note. Allow it.
- Connect. When the app finds your Oak Note, tap Connect.
- Meet your Oak Note. A short lesson shows the button and the status light. Press once to start recording, press again to stop, and press and hold to turn it off.
You can then set up your voice so Oak Note can recognize you in conversations. This step is optional. A short tour of Home follows, and Settings → Instructions has the same guide whenever you want it again.
Your Oak Note belongs to your account. Settings → Device shows whether it's connected, its battery, and how much space it has left. If setup can't find it, see Troubleshooting.
Sign out and account deletion
Both live in the app's settings. Anything Oak Note has already saved is still there when you sign back in. If signing out would delete audio that is kept only on this phone, the app tells you before you confirm.
Deleting your account is permanent and removes everything, including the contents of Trash. To clean up a few notes instead, delete the notes. Trash holds them for 7 days. See Home.
