Oak Note

POC scope and roadmap

What Oak Note does today, what is planned next, and what is only an idea.

Oak Note is an early product. This page is the honest map.

Oak Note is a proof of concept. Scope will evolve, and items can move between these sections without notice.

What it does today

  • Record and import. Recording with your Oak Note, started from its button or from the app, with a Notepad for written details and photos while you record. Recordings transfer to your phone over Bluetooth, or with Fast transfer over your Oak Note's Wi-Fi on iPhone. Import audio from Files, the audio of a video from Photos, Voice Memos, or any app that can share a file.
  • Transcription. Cloud transcription with automatic language identification, speaker separation, word-level timestamps, and versioned transcripts you correct through Ask Oakey.
  • Summaries and to-dos. Structured summaries with 108 searchable templates, and to-dos traceable back to the exact transcript passage.
  • Home. Local-first note list with search, playback, export to audio, PDF, DOCX, Markdown, plain text and SRT (one note or a selection at once), a 7-day Trash, and multi-device sync.
  • Ask Oakey. Chat about your notes: ask questions across them, or ask Oakey to rewrite a summary, correct transcript passages, or add and change to-dos. The separate MCP server remains available to external AI connectors.
  • Access. Create an account with your email address, or continue with Google or Apple where they're offered.

Other clients

The phone app is the complete experience, and it is what the rest of these docs describe. Two other clients exist as early previews:

  • macOS desktop. Records from the microphone and from system audio, so it can capture a meeting playing through your speakers, and it notices when a meeting starts. Echo cancellation is not built yet.
  • Web viewer. Read-only in the browser: browse notes, read summaries and transcripts, and work through to-dos. It cannot record, import, or edit.
  • MCP server and CLI. Let an AI assistant read your notes on your behalf, or script against them from a terminal. See Connect an AI assistant.

Planned next

  • Whole-account export. Take every note out in one step, without selecting them first.

Being explored

Under consideration, not committed, and none of it exists today:

  • Realtime transcription while you record.
  • Calendar and task-tool integrations.
  • Team workspaces and shared libraries.
  • Recording and editing from the desktop and web clients, beyond what they do today.

If a feature you need is on this list, treat it as a maybe rather than a promise.
