Troubleshooting
Fixes for the problems that come up most often.
The app can't find my Oak Note
Make sure your Oak Note is on: press and hold its button until the status light turns blue, then release. Keep it close to your phone and try again.
If the app says it's Paired with another phone, reset your Oak Note on that phone first, or choose another device.
The app needs Bluetooth access
Oak Note uses Bluetooth to find and talk to your Oak Note. If you declined the prompt, tap Open Settings, allow Bluetooth for Oak Note, then come back and tap Check again.
My Oak Note isn't connected
When your Oak Note isn't connected, Home shows Connect instead of Record. Turn your Oak Note on, keep it nearby, and tap Connect. You can still start a recording by pressing the button on your Oak Note; it transfers to your phone once they connect again.
A recording is stuck transferring
Recordings transfer while your Oak Note is connected, the app is open, and your phone is nearby. Some cases:
- Queued or Waiting, with Waiting to import audio… under it. The recording is still on your Oak Note and is waiting its turn. It transfers by itself; there's nothing to do.
- Recording in progress. Your Oak Note is recording, so the transfer waits. It carries on by itself when the recording ends.
- Transfer paused. The recording stays on your Oak Note. Tap Continue transfer.
- Fast transfer didn't start. Your recording is safe. Tap Continue transfer to carry on at the usual speed, or charge your Oak Note if the app asks you to.
A note is waiting
A note that shows Waiting carries on by itself when it can. The line under it says what it's waiting for. The most common ones:
- Processing starts when you're online. Your recording is saved on this phone. Connect to the internet.
- Continues when your limit resets. You've reached your daily limit for now.
- Open the note to continue. Open it and tap Try now.
- Still on your other phone. The recording is on your other phone. Open Oak Note there. If the note there asks for the recording again, open it and tap Try now.
A note couldn't be processed
If a note shows Couldn’t process, open it. The line there says why and what you can do, and you can try again where it offers to. Trying again never risks your recording.
My Oak Note is full or low on battery
Oak Note tells you when your Oak Note's battery or space runs low, and Settings → Device shows both. Charge it before you record.
Your Oak Note keeps recordings after they reach your phone. To clear it, first make sure every recording has reached your phone: keep your Oak Note connected and the app open until no card on Home shows Queued, Waiting, Importing audio…, Transferring, or Transfer paused. Until then, a recording may still be only on your Oak Note, and a reset would erase it. Then use Reset Oak Note in Settings → Device. It erases the recordings on your Oak Note and removes it from your account; your notes in the app stay, and you set up your Oak Note again afterwards.
My phone is out of storage
Your phone keeps the audio of the notes you record or import on it. Free up space by deleting notes you no longer need. They go to Trash, so export anything you want to keep first, then empty Trash to reclaim the space.
Changes aren't showing on my other phone
Oak Note syncs when you open the app rather than constantly in the background. Make sure the other phone is online, then close and reopen the app there. A new note can show on your other phones before its recording has reached your account. Until it has, the note can only finish on the phone that has the recording, so open Oak Note on that phone too. See Home.
The summary is missing or looks wrong
A summary can't be made until the transcript is ready, so check the note's stage on Home first. If the summary exists but reads badly, fix the transcript and ask for a new summary. See Summaries.
